Next stage of the trip.......
Arrived at Greymouth after a very long Journey from Kaikoura via Hanmer Spring Which by the way was a lovely township wish we could have stayed longer! Sun shining brightly. Well Greymouth! it is as grey as its name, only redeeming features were its cheaper souveniers, glad we were only staying overnight in a nice B&B.

Took the long trip from Greymouth to Franz Josef arrived at about 5 ish.

Went to check on the status of the heli-hike for the following day, said will not know until lift off time if it will go ahead. Next day we were there with our layers on and raring to go! arrived to be told it had been cancelled due to adverse weather conditions on the glacier but re booked for early the following day. Stuart was disappointed as through the whole trip he had been looking forward to it. Not thwarted we decided the go to Lake Matheson the one in all the pictures where everyone can get stunning pictures of Mt. Cook reflected in the lake - well wind was blowing so no still water! no picture! In total dismay we headed back th Franz Josef Stuart to internet Cafe and me sipping coffee outside. Well I saw this couple walk past and thought I know that person!!!!! It Was Maurice who I used to work with when he was with Victim Support. After the squawks and squeals we sat down for a good chat.

Following day up early (to have my travel sick pills) and into town for helihike we were doubtful as we could not see the mountains well it was cancelled again, with no alternatives as no planes or heli's were flying. Not daunted we went on the walk to see the glacier well as near as we could get and it was pouring down!!! well bumped into Maurice and Pat again - not seen each other for four years then twice in 2 days. With a sad heart we left Franz Josef and headed to Wanaka another long drive in the pouring rain however made even longer of frequent stops to take photographs of the awesome scenery (Awesome is the new word - used a lot by the Kiwi's ). Arrived at Motel still raining - got up this morning still raining - dossed - still raining - decided to go for walk still raining!

Tomorrow we are heading down to Queenstown guess what the forecast is more RAIN!!!

Still enjoying ourselves inspite of the vicious sandfly things who pack quite a sting!

Hope you are not bored by our ramblings but it makes us feel in touch!
